Calico Kitten

This precious thing wandered into our lives, but we already have 3 cats–absolutely no room for more. We’re feeding her because she’s so skinny! And she’s a sweetie who will make someone a great friend. Please give her a home! Look how cute she is!!!!!

A start to my goal of having a vegetable garden…

Posted by 43things on May 12 2008 | blog

I got a planter of chives at the farmer’s market a few weeks ago, so when I make baked potatoes, I just snip some up with scissors (yumm!!!).

I also planted zucchini vines that are now growing really fast in planters. I’ve recently learned they will be huge, and probably take over my porch! They are already big and amazing looking. I hope they’ll grow zucchinis and we can add them to our pasta (yummy!)

A start to my goal of having an herb garden…

Posted by 43things on May 12 2008 | blog

I don’t have a yard yet; I live in an apartment, but I’ve begun growing thyme and chamomile in planters on my porch. Lovely—yes? I love it.

Graduated this morning!

Posted by 43things on May 09 2008 | blog

Ceremony wasn’t all too exciting—in fact, I have a great disgust for graduations/award ceremonies (a great, great disgust), but it was good to take a day to acknowledge my accomplishment in some way.

It was especially wonderful to see the support I have surrounding me as I look to the next right thing to do. My sweet family: mom, dad, brother, sister all came to San Marcos to join Carlos and me for my graduation. I was very touched.

Thanks dear everyone in my life!

This is a collaboration between Walter Vandervelde (Moorlandt) and myself. Moorlandt wrote and played the piano. I wrote the melody and lyrics, which I sing.

I took my exams, had my thesis defense, got responses from Gerald Stern, and turned in a copy of my thesis to the graduate college for review purposes.

Gerald Stern was really tough, but that meant a lot to me. There were words he circled and just wrote, “no.” Ha ha. That’s why I chose him. I thought he’d be that direct. Anyway, because he’s so unafraid to write down what he really thinks, when he complimented me on successful poems, I felt it was genuine.

Oh, also, I got my regalia last Thursday, and graduation is May 9th! I’m sure I’ll have separation anxiety soon!

I sent my thesis off to both Gerald Stern and my poetry guru, Kathleen Peirce. I have scheduled my comprehensive exams for the weekend of March 20th, and my thesis defense will occur on April 2nd. My MFA seems very reachable now.
